10/02/2020 Important Message from District 89

October 2, 2020

Dear D89 Parents, Students and Staff,

We know the last few months have been incredibly trying on everyone. The circumstances we find ourselves in are fraught with unpredictability and continue to be challenging for everyone. Unfortunately, since my last communication, the COVID-19 cases in our country, state and surrounding communities continue to fluctuate. We remain committed to keeping our students, families, staff, and communities safe. Therefore, for the safety and well-being of our students, families, staff and communities, we will extend eLearning into the second academic quarter, which begins on October 28th and ends on January 15th.

We remain committed to providing a quality learning experience for our students. We will continue to monitor and adjust our eLearning expectations to meet the needs of our students. Therefore, we sent a parent survey to elicit feedback regarding eLearning, so please take a few minutes to complete one per student if you have not done so already.

We continue to work with our community partners to provide additional resources for our families as they become available. We will also continue to provide our Grab & Go meals for our students. We have also partnered with Small World and Veteran’s Park District to offer eLearning day camps for our working families. Additional information and resources can be found on our website at: https://www.maywood89.org/elearning/.

I want to thank you all in advance for your understanding and flexibility as we move forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal if you have any questions.

Please know that we want nothing more than to bring our students back to our schools and into our hallways and classrooms. However, we will continue to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of our district community. Thus, we will return to in-person instruction once it is safe to do so. I wish you all safety and good health as we continue to address these challenging times.

Partners in Education,
Dr. David Negron
